The iPhone Has Become A Web Server In Japan
February 11, 2009
If you were thinking that a web server application has already been created for the iPhone, you would be correct, but it is only available for jailbroken iPhones.
FreeBit, a Tokyo based company, has a new application available legitimately through the Japanese App Store that accomplishes the same task.
The application is called ServersMan@iPhone and it allows computers access to the iPhone through a web browser or the WebDAV protocol. If the computer is on the same network as the iPhone, it will be allowed to connect directly. If they are on separate networks, FreeBit's own VPN software will be able to start the connection.
FreeBit has invited Sony's former CEO to be a business adviser for the company which is allegedly how they came up with the name for the application. ServersMan and Sony's WalkMan, get it?
FreeBit provides network platforms to internet service providers which would explain their want and ability to fulfill such a need for iPhone users. ServersMan@iPhone should be available for U.S. App Store customers sometime in March of this year.
