New Developers Seeing Contract Delays

March 8, 2009
Developers who are approaching the end of their annual contracts have reportedly been unable to renew them with Apple to allow their applications to remain at the App Store. Apple has already eased those fears, stating that even if some developers aren't able to get their contracts renewed in time, Apple will allow their applications to remain at the store until everything has been righted. Now, a new problem has surfaced at the overworked App Store. New developers are finding it impossible to get their contracts approved. A process that used to take as little as two days has turned into months for some developers. Even those who intend to submit free applications, which normally require less paperwork than paid applications, are witnessing large delays. As Apple's App Store has grown at an ever increasing rate, Apple has had more and more difficulties keeping up. It seems that they may have been unprepared to handle all of the requests. The number of reports from developers getting the runaround from Apple have been increasing as well. When developers have attempted to contact Apple regarding their situation, Apple representatives give a stock response, apologizing for the wait while having no answers at all. New developers seemingly have their hands tied. Some developers are even questioning whether they should continue development for the iPhone due to the lengthy delays. As long as their applications aren't available at the store, they aren't making any returns on their investments. Without money, it's nearly impossible to continue development. Hopefully Apple is able to quickly remedy this issue. [via AppleInsdier]
