New iPhone To Allow Video Recording And Publishing?
March 20, 2009
As time goes by, more and more features are bound to show up that were previously hidden deep within the iPhone OS 3.0 beta. Hackers, developers, and regular curious people alike have already found quite a few interesting features in a very short amount of time. Engadget seems to have stumbled upon yet another interesting feature, video publishing.
The "Publish Video" screen reportedly appears when you try to upload photos to MobileMe. Now, don't let your little hearts get all worked up into a flurry yet, because this doesn't necessarily confirm anything. According to at least one source, Apple doesn't allow video recording due to the iPhones use of flash memory. Since flash memory has a finite amount of write-erase cycles, video recording would in theory speed up the deterioration of the memory; and since the iPhone's memory is irreplaceable, users could end up with dead iPhones sooner than expected.
If new iPhone hardware is in the works, all of this could be a moot point. Once again, we must wait it out in hopes that this single screenshot confirms video recording will be made available, at least for future iPhone hardware.
