Sirius Satellite Radio Coming To iPhone

March 14, 2009
Sirius, like many other companies, is having a difficult time adjusting their business model to better position themselves in this slumping economy. Their main source of revenue, new car sales, is obviously not going to cut it right now so they have decided to tap into other revenue sources. Enter Apple's hugely popular iPhone and iPod touch. Sirius has officially announced that they plan on bringing Sirius XM radio to the iPhone and iPod touch. The application should be available at the App Store sometime in the second-quarter of this year. No other details exist, including application pricing. Sirius Chief Financial Officer David Frear had this to say during a call with analysts:
"This is a large and interesting opportunity that will maintain our subscription-based economics while providing customers easier access to our content through means other than our traditional satellite-based platform."
The application will not only make current Sirius subscribers ecstatic, but it should also bring in a whole new group of users who haven't yet experienced satellite radio. [via CNBC]
