Apple Apologizes For Approving Baby Shaker App

April 24, 2009
140193-babyshaker_original Earlier today we reported about the unfortunate approval then fortunate yanking of an app called Baby Shaker for the iPhone. It was an application in which the user had to shake a picture of a baby to get it to stop crying and until its eye's had red X's on them. Now, MacWorld is reporting that Apple issued a formal apology for approving the app in the first place. When contacted by MacWorld, Apple had the following to say:
This application was deeply offensive and should not have been approved for distribution on the App Store. When we learned of this mistake, the app was removed immediately. We sincerely apologize for this mistake and thank our customers for bringing this to our attention.
The developer, Sikalosoft, did not immediately return e-mails about their app and subsequently have taken down their web site in it's entirety.
