DigiTimes is reporting that according to their sources at downstream suppliers, Apple has placed orders for 100 million 8Gb NAND flash chips, consequently tightening the supply of the chips for everyone else. If at first glance you were wondering what Apple would be doing with that many 8GB chips, you may want to read it again.  These are 8 gigabit chips, not gigabyte.  The chips are recombined during the manufacturing process to create larger chips, such as 16GB and 32GB, which could be logically included in the next-gen iPhone or even iPod touch. With the recently discovered images that basically prove the iPhone will contain some sort of video recording capabilities, it would make a lot of sense for Apple to bump the iPhone's storage capacity up to 32GB.
