iPhone Developers Can Now Test Push Notifications On Apps

April 9, 2009
pushnotice_top04_v2 Apple has sent out an e-mail to registered iPhone Developers letting them know they can now start testing Push Notifications on their applications in the iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2. According to the e-mail, developers can log in to the iPhone Dev Center and take a look at the Push Notification Programming Guide as well as watch a Getting Started Video. If they'd prefer to skip that introduction, they can proceed to logging into the iPhone Developer Portal and then the App ID section where they can take the proper steps to begin "using and testing" Push Notification on their applications. Push Notification, the highly anticipated and long delayed service from Apple, allows applications that are set up to run in the background (such as checking e-mail) to notify the user of any given action that has been taken or occurred (for example, a new e-mail has arrived or an update to an application is now available). Apple's Push Notification Service was announced last year with a September 2008 roll out date. After months and months of silence from Apple,  it was finally re-announced during the unveiling of the iPhone OS 3.0 last month.
