As time passes, developers find interesting new features included in the iPhone OS 3.0 beta software, that's just how things work.  AppleInsider outlined some of these new features including data detectors, battery indicators, push notification preferences, and a small addition to the way mobile Safari handles windows. Mobile Safari is now able to close all open pages.  Instead of having to open a new blank page to close the final page, you can simply close that final page and Safari will automatically open a new blank page for you.  Trust me, it makes sense. Resource files contained within the new version of Springboard indicate that Apple will allow you to choose the look of the battery indicator.  Instead of simply displaying an icon, you will be allowed to toggle between the icon, the icon and numerical indicators, or a numerical only indicator. datadetector You will also be allowed to change what type of push notifications you want to receive, possibly in an attempt to conserve battery power.  In the new push notifications preference pane, you will be allowed to enable or disable the three types of push notifications: sounds, alerts, and badges.  You will also be able to disable them as a whole. Data detectors have also been implemented into the iPhone OS 3.0 beta.  Data detectors automatically detect text that is linkable like email addresses, phone numbers, and street addresses.  This allows you to quickly follow links with a simple touch of your finger instead of having to copy and paste or retype a linked item. All of these additions may be simple, but sometimes the most simple features are the most exciting.  There will certainly be many more new discoveries before the official release of iPhone OS 3.0, so stay tuned. Which of these four new features are you most excited about using in the new iPhone OS?
