New Updates

April 21, 2009
main-godIf you've got just about every page on your device filled with apps like I do, this was a good week for updates. Most notably for me was the constantly updated Pocket God and the long awaited update for Zombieville USA. I probably play these two apps more than any other on my phone at the moment. Although Pocket God isn't technically a game, but close enough. A few other goodies this week popped up for Tap Tap Revenge 2, Watchmen: Justice is Coming (which still isn't very good), Wolfenstein 3D Classic, and iDracula. (just to name a few) As I said, Pocket God and Zombieville USA are the two I was eagerly waiting for and they both didn't disappoint. First let's get into Pocket God and the amazing job those guys over at Bolt Creative have done with this little app that has continued to stay in the top 25 for months now. Whether you are a fan of this app or not, the reason it's so popular is because of the weekly updates. So far they are the only development team I know of that strives to get a new update out on a weekly basis. Sometimes that week can go a little long, but for the most part every week this app has something new added to it. Each time it just gets better and better and for only $.99, what more could you ask for? namepocketAnyway, back to this week's update...we finally have the ability to name each one of the islanders and they've also added a stats page to keep track of how many times you decide to torture each one and in which way you decide to do it. This really helps add a lot more replay value to the app instead of what I usually use it for, which is killing about five minutes or so. Easily worth the money if you haven't picked it up yet. I've had the app since the launch of it and it's exciting to see just how far it's come since then. Up next is their Star Wars Trilogy of sorts appropriately named: A New Home, The Tyrannosaurus Strikes Back, and Return of the Pygmy...awesome! What more is there to say? Get it now because once this is released, the price is going to go up. To be honest I'm surprised it's taken them this long to finally increase the price for this. main-zombieThe last update (and according to their site this will be the final "polish" on the game) is the Zombieville USA update that I grabbed last night. A bunch of new stuff has been added to this one including the ability to play your own music (awesome), improvements to performance and graphics (graphics look much better, still some lag though), the app respects the mute button (cool I guess?), and you can finally purchase ammo once you've acquired all of the guns in the game (it's about time!). The ammo costs $1600 which is definitely steep, but once you get toward level twenty you're money is maxed out anyways so it's not really that big of a deal. At least they finally added this feature. My current score is level 30 with 1032 zombies killed. Can't wait to see how far I can get this time. Side note: Anyone got a better score? Let me know so I have a challenge to beat. It's nice to see a badge next to the app store icon. It's like opening a bunch of presents. Which ones are getting updated, what are they updating this time? The worst is when it's for apps you don't even use anymore, but you still update them don't you? Yeah, I do it to. I just went through and got rid of a bunch of apps I don't use anymore, but I still held on to a few, even if I haven't opened them in weeks. It's my curse, what can I say...

App Pick of the Week

smackSo for this week I have a ridiculously stupid, yet fun, app called Smack Me! Ever play one of those Bop It games where it tells you to hit a button, twist a knob, or shake the thing? Well, if so that's basically what this game is. You basically torture a robot as it tells you to smack it (you tap the screen), shake it (obviously just shake your device), and pinch me (pinch your fingers on the screen). It gets faster and more difficult the higher levels you go and each one ends with a robotic voice at the end, which is always funny. There's a lite version for free and the main version which costs only $.99. If anything, try out the lite version for a few minutes of robot awesomeness.

Retro Game of the Week

So two weeks running and nobody has figured out what this game is...sweet. So here it is again. Tell me what the game is called and the system it was on. Good luck and I'll see you next week... gameofweek
