Parts Maker Claims It's Already Shipping Parts for Next-Gen iPhone

April 23, 2009
iphone-a1303 Another day, another next generation iPhone rumor. Hot off the presses this morning is a report from DigiTimes that claims Taiwan-based chip maker WPG has already begun shipping power management chips for the next generation Apple iPhone. The report also claims that the part production will eventually be at several million chips a month. Figures like this could certainly be in line with the number of next-generation iPhones that Apple could be expected to ship on a monthly basis. However, this information from WPG about power management components can be construed to directly contradict a separate list of suppliers that was leaked last week that assigned the identical parts to Infineon and NXP. What isn't known yet is if WPG is contracted to build for one or both of the companies or else is producing parts under its own name. As with any rumor don't bet the farm on reports like this being 100% true. But given the timing and nature of a report like this, I'd say this one has more legs than most others. We will keep you updated with any further developments as we receive them.
