Apple To Acquire Twitter?
May 5, 2009
If you haven't heard of Twitter by now, you must be navigating the Internet with your eyes closed. Twitter has taken the world by storm, with its user base increasing at a rate of 40 percent per week. Because of this, many companies, including Google, have been rumored to be showing interest in purchasing the company, but up to this point, nothing has happened. To make the acquisition rumors even more interesting, it looks like someone has decided to throw Apple's name into the mix.
According to TechCrunch, and many, many other blogging news sites, Apple is looking to acquire Twitter:
“Apple is in late stage negotiations to buy Twitter and is hoping to announce it at WWDC in June,” said a normally reliable source this evening, adding that the purchase price would be $700 million in cash.No other details are available at this point, just speculation. Twitter has constantly denied all rumors of a sale, going as far as saying that they aren't going to sell the company to anyone, at any price right now. So is Apple seriously considering acquiring Twitter? It is highly unlikely. As TechCrunch even stated themselves, rumors like this spread because no news blog once to be left out of the loop, including this one, whether the rumor is remotely feasible or not. Just for the fun of it, let's say that Apple was actually going to acquire Twitter. What do you think Apple could gain from such an acquisition? Also, what could Apple do to better the service?
