With the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) just around the corner, the next generation iPhone rumors are only going to become more and more frequent, and quite possibly more ridiculous. If you want to be surprised, or more likely not let down when the new iPhone is announced, you may just want to hide in a dark room until, at the very least, June 8th. For those of you that enjoy iPhone related rumors, it is time to have a little fun.
A mobile site by the name
phoneArena has published a photo of Best Buy's retail inventory system that references three new AT&T devices under the codename "Project Charlie." The three unknown devices are given the model names of Charlie 1, 2, and 3, and they are all given the description "Project Charlie." The entries are assumed to be placeholders for the iPhone until it is made public.
The likelihood of Best Buy having insider information, due to Apple's intense secrecy when it comes to unannounced products, is slim, but it is possible. Best Buy is one of only two third-party retailers in the U.S. who are allowed to stock and sell iPhones, with Walmart being the other. To add to the possibility of this being true, the new iPhone would be a third generation device, so using the phonetic word Charlie would be logical in this case. There are also three separate entries, possibly indicating two different capacity models, with one having two different colors.
Of course all of this is pure speculation, and anything can be spun the right way if you try hard enough, but at least it adds a little fun to your Friday. Best Buy could simply be guessing like the rest of us just to ensure they are ready for the next-gen iPhone with made up placeholders.
What do you think, is it possible that Best Buy has secret insider information?
