Beta testing applications can be a fun way for regular folks to assist in the development process.  Sometimes testers are rewarded with a simple thank you, and sometimes they receive even more, like a free promo code for the application when it's released.  Aha Mobile is taking a bit of a different route with their beta testing program by offering participants $100 iTunes gift cards for their troubles. Aha Mobile recently secured $3 million in Series A financing from the leading venture capital firm Venrock.  Aha intends to use this new wave of funding to develop an application that allows drivers to connect with relevant information about the world around them.  The interesting part of this yet-to-be-named application is that it will utilize the iPhone's GPS capabilities along with some sort of voice recognition technology to operate search queries.  The voice recognition portion of the application could be the very reason Aha received the funding, as their goal is to make a safe and yet useful application for drivers.
"We all know that looking up information with a device while driving is a dangerous habit, but people do it anyway because they need to make quick decisions on the road,” said Robert Acker, President and CEO of Aha. “Our goal is to safely provide drivers with just the relevant pieces of information they need, letting them focus their attention on driving. We’re proud to be backed by Venrock, a visionary fund that has been focused on automotive innovations and solutions that improve the driving experience.”
The sign up process for beta testing has already begun, but it is still not too late if you are interested.  To qualify, you must own an iPhone and you must drive on a consistent basis.  Beta testers will be asked to participate in the program for about 4-6 weeks, and they will also be asked to provide regular feedback throughout the testing period.  Upon completion of the program, all testers will be rewarded with a $100 iTunes gift card.  Aha is looking for testers from all around the country, but they emphasize that they are specifically looking for people from the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas. There are limited beta testing slots available, so don't hesitate to sign up if you are interested.
