EA Releases American Idol: The Game, Anytime Pool
May 7, 2009
The barrage of iPhone games from EA continues. Over the evening hours EA released not only American Idol: The Game, but also the more casual Anytime Pool. At this rate, EA may end up having over 40 games at the App Store by the end of the year.
American Idol: The Game allows you to play through an entire Idol season on your iPhone or iPod touch. You are required to utilize the iPhone's accelerometer and touchscreen controls to perform music, and be judged by Simon, Paula, and Randy who will give you authentic feedback on your performance. During the game you are able to make choices that affect your style, fame, and talent, which will lead to multiple outcomes. You can also interact with full-motion video characters, and there is even actual footage from the show. If you don't have time to compete in the full game, simply choose the Quick-Play mode to play a large list of songs on the go. Basically, if you enjoy the show, you will enjoy the game!
EA also released Anytime Pool. Anytime Pool was actually developed by Distinctive Developments, the same team that brought you the Facebook version of the game, EA simply published it. Anytime Pool for the iPhone allows you to play with your friends on Facebook. You can search for friends to play with, or just use the Match-up mode to pair up with any available player automatically. If you aren't playing online, there are 14 different characters to play against while on the go. The iPhone's intuitive touch interface allows you to make precise shots, and the usual touch, pinch, and zoom controls allow you to size up the perfect shot. Anytime Pool keeps track of your statistics and badges so you can compare with your friends later to see who is the master of the pool table.
American Idol: The Game and Anytime Pool are both available at the App Store for $4.99. Anytime Pool is only currently available in the US App Store, but Distinctive Developments assured us the international version is coming as well. With all of these great games being released in the past few weeks, it's going to be hard to make a decision about which ones to purchase.
