iPhone Rumor Friday: 16GB End-Of-Life And 32GB Placeholder
May 22, 2009
Fridays are quickly becoming the day of choice for all of you rumor mongers out there. Last week Friday we had next-gen iPhone placeholder rumors along with exterior design changes, and this week we have the 16GB iPhone 3G getting the end-of-life treatment along with T-Mobile Austria accidentally posting a 32GB iPhone placeholder on their website.
MacTalk is reporting that a trusted source has brought to their attention that an Australian carrier has sent out an email to their entire retail staff stating that the 16GB iPhone 3G has been marked as end-of-life by their supplier. This seems like a logical step for unloading old iPhone stock in anticipation for the next-gen release, but you have to wonder why the 8GB iPhone 3G hasn't been marked end-of-life as well.
Another indication that the next-gen iPhone is on the verge of release comes from T-Mobile Austria via Engadget. The carrier had accidentally placed a 32GB iPhone placeholder in their "Coming Soon" section, only to swiftly remove it once the media caught wind of this blunder. The most intriguing part of this bit of news isn't that the mistake was made, but that only two years ago T-Mobile Germany made a similar slip that turned out to be accurate. We can only hope this one turns out the same way.
With the World Wide Developers Conference only a couple of weeks off, the next-gen iPhone rumors should only get more frequent. Just try to contain your excitement a little while longer, we're almost there.
