BioWare has decided that the
rumors surrounding
Mass Effect for the iPhone have gone on long enough. The RPG developer's community coordinator Chris Priestly has confirmed via the series'
official forums that
Mass Effect: Jacob's Story is, in fact, a real game making its way to the iPhone. Priestly has also decided to take this opportunity to clear up a few other rumors concerning the title.
Mass Effect: Jacob's Story was eventually going to be announced by the BioWare team, but one of the testers broke the non-disclosure agreement and the title was revealed before it was intended to, which means that much of the leaked info isn't official, it was simply part of their research study. It looks like signing a non-disclosure agreement really doesn't mean much these days, at least to crazed fans.
The game isn't intended to be a bridge between the
Mass Effect 1 and
Mass Effect 2 stories as originally speculated, it is going to be an entirely separate side-story about one of the upcoming
Mass Effect 2 characters. Priestly had also stated this is just the tip of the iceberg for the
Mass Effect series, they feel that the iPhone and iPod touch platforms are a great place to start with the expansion. Many more details are said to follow later this month.
It will be interesting to see if fans of the console version of the game will give the iPhone version a chance, being that the original
Mass Effect was an Xbox 360 and Windows exclusive title, and Microsoft fanboys aren't usually the types who appreciate any of Apple's products.
