Wonderful Word Games Week Kicks Off Today
May 22, 2009
Ian Marsh from Nimblebit contacted us recently to let us know that today marks the beginning of Wonderful Word Games Week. The promotion is a joint effort between six independent developers to offer their games at a discounted price, and even though they are independent developers, they all have one very special thing in common, word games.
Wonderful Word Games Week starts today and will run through May 31st. It will feature some of the best word games available on the iTunes App Store. All of the games included in the promotion will be on sale for $.99, and they will be marked with a badge so you can easily identify the participants. The games and developers included in the promotion are:
- Moxie by Blue Ox
- Wordology by Cerebral Gardens
- Imangi and Imangi Word Squares by Imangi Studios
- Textropolis by Nimblebit
- Wurdle by Semi Secret Software
- Stitch 'Em Words by Syed Jafri
"All of us make word games, but we're really not competitors. In fact a customer who buys a game from one of us will likely enjoy any or all of the other games, so we have much more to gain by working together than by going it alone. To my knowledge we're the first group of developers to try something exactly like this campaign, but we'll probably not be the last. If independent developers hope to remain viable on the App Store, they will need to start getting more creative with their marketing." "This promotion really is a team effort. For instance Ian (NimbleBit) is building the web site, Adam (Semi Secret Software) is doing graphic design, Dave (Cerebral Gardens) is providing bandwidth, and everyone else is pitching in too. Part of what makes this so amazing is that we're all spread across the U.S. and Canada and a couple of weeks ago most of us had never even met each other."With all of the big name game releases recently, it's nice to see the independent crowd pulling together to market their games. Hopefully this type of marketing becomes more common because not only does it help out you, the customer, but it also helps independent developers get their great games noticed. This should be gaming bliss for all of you word game addicts out there. Are any of you going to be taking advantage of Wonderful Word Games Week?
