iPhone 3GS: The Gaming Difference
So, I'm sure some of you have been seeing the videos popping up on YouTube that showcase the power of the new iPhone 3GS side-by-side with the older model, the iPhone 3G. Yes? No? Either way I have a couple of videos below that are pretty impressive in terms of showing off the 3GS' potential, and what that means to us gamers out there.
First is a video from the company Tap Tap Tap. In it they are comparing both phones by using their soon to be released app named Plasma. Now, as they say in the video, the coding for the app needs to be altered for the 3G and was merely used as a test to show us the power difference between the two phones. Check that out below...
Pretty impressive as I said. The iPhone 3GS is almost four timers faster! Amazing. Again, that was only a test on a fairly basic application. Not to mention the coding issue. Next I have another from Ziconic, the developer's of one of my favorite apps, AirCoaster 3D. Again, check that video out below as well...
This really shows how much the new Open GL ES 2.0-compatible programmable pipeline of the iPhone 3GS is just superior in every way to the older model, the 3G. It really is amazing how much smoother everything just looks and plays on Apple's new device.
Now I haven't been able to try out the difference first hand yet. I'm still using the 3G, but these and other YouTube videos really show off the power of the new iPhone. I'm curious to know what you guys think. First, have you received or purchased a new iPhone 3GS yet? If so, how do you think it measures up to the older model in terms of the games? And which games have you noticed the most obvious changes in?
App Pick of the Week
This week I'm going with the app, Dam Buster from Cobra Mobile. These are the same guys that brought us the equally fun app, iBomber. In this one you basically have to blow up a bunch of dams, really.
Obviously there is more to it than that, but that's the short of it. The visuals and overall "retro, war-film" look of the game really makes it one that you guys should check out. Especially if you are a fan of anything involving WWI or II.
Retro Game of the Week
So once again I picked a game that was apparently way too easy, Caveman Olympics for the NES. One of my favorites. Kudos goes to Brandon Lee for guessing correctly. Just to be clear, there isn't any prize or anything. I just do this for fun because, well...it's my column and I want to so there...heh.
