iPhone OS 3.0 Battery Percentage Meter Rediscovered

June 19, 2009

batterypercentage

That tiny little battery icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen can be difficult to interpret sometimes, that's why Apple put a switch in the iPhone OS 3.0 betas to toggle a battery percentage meter on and off.  Some people simply like seeing a numerical identifier for their battery.  For whatever reason, that switch disappeared from the final release of iPhone OS 3.0, and people were a bit disappointed to say the least.  Now, however, that switch has been re-discovered, but it isn't good news for everyone. TheiPhoneBlog rediscovered the switch while digging around in iPhone OS 3.0, but the silly thing is that it was discovered only on the iPhone 3G S.  We decided to test that theory ourselves and sure enough, the iPhone 3G S is the only device capable of displaying the battery percentage meter. So, if you don't own an iPhone 3G S, you won't be using the battery percentage meter anytime soon.  It doesn't make a lot of sense, but who are we to judge?  Maybe Apple just has another "bug" to fix in iPhone OS 3.0.
