Mossberg Believes New iPhone Will Be Unveiled Next Week

June 4, 2009

When industry veteran Walt Mossberg speaks, everyone seems to listen.  Just yesterday he posted a review for the yet-to-be released Palm Pre on All Things Digital, but instead of it being just about the Pre, the new iPhone was able to steal a bit of the thunder. Mossberg made quite a few very specific comments about the new iPhone within the Pre review, which he claims will be announced at the World Wide Developers Conference on Monday.
A new, improved iPhone is expected to be announced on June 8.
That's just the tip of the spear, however, as Mossberg goes on to claim that the new iPhone will be available within one month.  He also gives a rundown on what he believes the new iPhone will contain.
Apple already has announced it’s adding MMS, universal search, and copy and paste. And, although Apple hasn’t announced any new hardware features, I expect to see an iPhone with up to 32 gigabytes of memory, video recording, a higher-resolution camera, a compass, and greater operating speed. Plus, there are persistent rumors that Apple will announce at least one iPhone at a drastically lower price than $199.
If these comments were made by someone other than Mossberg, they would usually be dismissed as pure speculation since much of what he said fits the rumors that have been circulating over the past couple of months.  The fact of the matter is that the comments were made by Mossberg, and many people believe that he may just have some insider information regarding Apple's highly sought after device. We will find out shortly if Mossberg's predictions ring true since WWDC will be upon us very, very shortly.  What do you think?  Does Walt Mossberg already have a new iPhone in hand, or is he merely repeating what everyone else is saying?
