Week In Review - June 5th Edition
June 5, 2009
First and foremost
Did you notice? We finally decided take the wraps off of our well kept secret this week, AppAdvice.com. Yes, that's right, AppleiPhoneApps is now AppAdvice. AppAdvice still contains all of the awesome news and reviews that you have come to expect from us, but it also features all kinds of other new goodies. We now have applists, App Store charts, BargainBin directly integrated into the site, and even the ability to search for apps without having to open iTunes. This was all created just for you, so feel free to tell us what you think.
Rumors? What rumors?
We started the rumor week off with a bang. First, there were the leaked images of the alleged new iPhone. Then, we witnessed a boat load of new rumors including new iPhone storage capacities (4GB to 32GB), iPhone 3G shortages, a possible front-facing camera, a cheaper iPhone, and an unveiling date. Finally, to wrap it all up in a nice and neat package, someone went out of their way to create a rumor round-up graphic for easy rumor viewing.
Discovery time
A new message was discovered in iPhone OS 3.0 beta 5 that warned us we may not be able to re-download applications anymore directly from our iPhones. In a possible attempt to make up for this pure awfulness, Apple may be working on a way for you to recommend applications to other users. Another feature was discovered in iPhone OS beta 5 that may allow you to easily find AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots, and we also found out that the new iPhone OS will be able to track your location via Mobile Safari.
WWDC!
We are almost there! There are only a couple of more days until the WWDC keynote kicks off, and it's sure to be one giant event. Steve Jobs is likely to be absent from the event itself, but at least we finally know that he still intends to come back to Apple full-time sometime in the month of June. If you are at WWDC, why not party like a rock star? The Launch party will definitely be the place to be on June 10th if you are a developer, part of the media, or just a huge iPhone fan.
Not quite finished yet
We were able to get our hands on a final build of Chillingo's new arcade shooter, CS.One, and from what we witnessed, it is sure to be one addicting little game. Firemint finally took the wraps off of its baby, Real Racing, but we are still waiting for it to make its way into the App Store. We weren't at E3 this year, but Dexter was. The game that was announced last year for the iPhone is shaping up to be one of the must-have iPhone games of the fall season.
New and noteworthy apps
The Sims 3 for the iPhone was finally released and amazingly, it made it all the way to the number one position on the paid applications list and it remains there. EA released another big name title, Clue, with all of the usual suspects. Agile Web Solutions handy utility application 1Password remained free until the weekend. The most addicting casual game at the App Store, Flight Control, got the update treatment which added tons of new aircraft and maps to try to conquer all over again.
