The 88 recorded "Love Is The Thing" using an iPhone and the $9.99 FourTrack app. The song is now available in the iTunes Music Store. You can grab it here. The band recorded 14 tracks all in all, including acoustic guitar, drums, bass, piano and seven different vocal tracks. You might ask how did they record that many tracks for a song using an app called FourTrack. Well, the app lets you combine four tracks into two so you can record two more tracks. Presumably they just repeated this process to get all the instruments they wanted into the song. The song sounds great and it's incredible an iPhone was used to record the entire thing. Though, according to their Web site, the band did use a special piece of hardware called Alesis ProTrack to re-record the lead vocal at the end, which let them connect both a microphone and headphones to the iPhone and adjust the input level. Check out this great making of video that gives you a good sense of what "Love Is The Thing" sounds like too.
