iPhone 3GS Real Racing Tech Demo Video - 40 Cars On-Screen
July 1, 2009
We have already demonstrated just you how fast the iPhone 3GS can launch apps, but Firemint has provided a Real Racing tech demo video that shows how powerful the 3GS is once a game has actually loaded.
Real Racing is hands down one of the most realistic racing games to hit the iPhone. It features great graphics, 36 cars, 12 tracks, intelligent AI drivers, and the ability to display up to six cars on the screen at once. Now that the 3GS is available to the masses, Firemint has decided to push the brand new hardware by adding even more on-screen cars to the game, and the results are quite amazing.
Below is an excerpt from Firemint's blog that does a solid job of setting up the video:
"We're thrilled to be showered with such praise, and it got us wondering what we can do on the new hardware. Real Racing has up to six cars on the track at any one time. Since the game uses a high fidelity physics engine, adding cars is a good test for pushing the hardware. We started our tech demo with 8 cars on the track, then 10, 12, 16 and 20, and the 3GS still didn't break a sweat. We finally stopped when we got to 40 cars on the track at the same time, still with no perceptible drop in frame rate. We think the results are mind blowing."
Now that's power! Keep in mind that this was just a tech demo. Firemint has no intentions of allowing any more than six cars on the screen at once in the retail version of the game, but it does serve as a solid benchmark of what can be achieved on the 3GS.
