iPhone OS 3.1 Beta 2 Disables Internet Tethering For AT&T Users
AT&T iPhone tethering users beware: MacRumors is reporting Beta 2 of iPhone OS 3.1 that was released last night removes any installed "hacks" that enabled the Internet Tethering option in the Network settings on the iPhone and the ability to tether altogether. When iPhone OS 3.0 was released, the option for Internet Tethering was nowhere to be found on AT&T iPhone's here in the US but within a week, a number of sites reported how to enable the feature, some of which involved two simple clicks on a site within Safari on the iPhone itself.
Tethering, the ability to share your iPhone's data connection with your computer for internet access, has not been an option for AT&T iPhone users since the original iPhone launch back in 2007. During WWDC '09 when the iPhone 3GS was introduced, tethering was announced as an option for some global cell carriers, but not AT&T was not one of them. Since then, AT&T has stated that it plans to offer it sometime this summer for an additional monthly charge.
