Nimbuzz - Another Free Chat App Gets Push Notifications
July 15, 2009

Nimbuzz has actually been available in the App Store for quite a while now. It supports tons of different chat services, including Skype, Yahoo! Messenger, AIM, Google Talk, MSN, Facebook, MySpace, ICQ, and more. The app also allows you to make calls to friends on tons of other services over Wi-Fi, and supports landscape typing.
Nimbuzz was recently updated to v1.3, which adds push notifications for new chats, voicemails, messages, and files. The push notification itself is actually just a badge with a sound, you don't get the snazzy pop-up menu with the message itself, at least not from what we have seen from our limited testing. The other downside is that the app only allows you to stay logged in for up to 30 minutes.
Other v1.3 additions include the ability to send and receive files and photos, location sharing, faster login, and an improved buddy list layout.
You must sign up for a free Nimbuzz account to use the service, which you can do directly through the app for free. Nimbuzz itself is free as well.
We have added Nimbuzz to our Apps That Push You AppList.
