Overview

musteatbirds-cakeSo you want an overview for MUST.EAT.BIRDS, huh? Next to impossible. What I can say is this: The game is without a doubt very entertaining and fun...however, I'm not quite sure what I just played. Seriously, this game is all over the place. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's a little like chaos and anarchy got together and spawned a child that they named MUST.EAT.BIRDS. What does all this mean exactly? Again, I really have no idea, but it sure was a blast to play...

Features

Okay, so try and stay with me as I attempt to explain some of the features this app comes with. As I said above, a lot of this game is really far out there and doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but that's kind of the charm of the game so anyway...here we go. The app has nine different unique missions included in it. What does that mean? Well, it means there are nine different levels, each with its own difficultly and backgrounds for the most part. There are also six different types of enemies that you come across, but I have no idea how to explain them to be honest. You'll just have to take my word for it that there are enemies and you must avoid them. The game has mission grades and ranks so you can replay them and try to beat your last score. There is a combo system and a special "MAXIMUM BAKE" mode that allows you to rack up points as a giant cake shows up behind you and let's you...get more points I guess. There are four different unlockable challenges to get through as well as the main game itself. Special cake awards allow you to rack up more points again too. This is where you still have all of your four cakes safe at the bottom of the screen.

The Breakdown

The Good:

musteatbirds-gameI feel this app falls into the category of this: You are either going to love this game or hate it...period. That's really all there is to it. If you like the game, just about everything here is good. The graphics look amazing and the sound design and music fit the app perfectly. The controls are very easy and simple to master, which is nice to see in a game like this. The actual gameplay is fun and very spontaneous. What I mean by that is that you never really know what is going on. Stuff is flying around the screen and moving this way or that. It's very chaotic to say the least. However, that's what makes this so much fun is that you've never really played anything like it. Bottomline...I could talk all day about this game, but in the end the single greatest element of the game is that it's unpredictable. And that right there is why it deserves the praise it's getting because you never really know what is going to happen next.

The Bad:

musteatbirds-failThe only thing I could find "bad" about this game is the actual gameplay itself. It can get a tad monotonous at times, but I didn't really have an issue with that. What I mean is you basically just keep slingshotting your main character around the screen. That's about it. Yes, more stuff comes into pay as far as obstacles and thins to avoid and/or collect, but in the end you just bounce the little orange guy around the screen. There isn't much to the actual gameplay itself. It's very simple and straightforward and that might get boring for some.

The Verdict

Ah, the most important part of the review...should you shell out a buck for this game? I say yes. It really is a lot of fun and even though it might get a bit confusing at times, that will never get in the way of the gameplay or the enjoyment of the game at all. If you like Japanese games that are very weird and colorful and a lot of fun, I say this is the game for you. [gallery link="file" columns="4"]
