July 12, 2009

The iPhone is an amazing device—jailbroken or not. There is just so much that can be done with the little guy. There is even some stuff that many people are unaware of. So, for the next 5 paragraphs or so, being revealed will be some iPhone secrets, tips, and tricks for the jailbreaker and the non-jailbreaker alike. For the Non-Jailbreaker, and the Jailbreaker: Everybody likes cheap stuff. Everybody loves free stuff. Here are two little hints that will let anybody enjoy the iPhone even more with little to no moolah (so that you have more money to pay AT&T). The Cheap Yet Classy Video Stand: The first is very simple, yet really cool. Have you ever been watching a video on your iPhone but gotten tired of holding it up in incredibly awkward positions? Then, were you outraged by iPhone Stand prices you discovered on Etsy and other sites? Well, here is an easy (and fun!) solution that everybody can benefit from:

It is a completely secure, reusable, recycled, perfect stand for your iPhone. All you need is 5 pencils and some rubber bands. You can find that laying in your desk drawer right now for free, right? Much better than paying $40 a stand—plus, it looks cooler than any other iPhone stand on the market.

iPhone video stand made out of pencils and rubber bands: a few cents. Letting your arm rest on your lap while you can enjoy watching videos on your iPhone: Priceless. (OK, I admit that was a little cheesy, but it gets the point across and fits just perfectly). The steps are written in for you, but a picture's worth a thousand words and the pictures should be all the description you need:

Let's start, of course, in iTunes.

Select a free application you'd like to download.

You should see a screen like this. Select "create New Account."

That's very nice Apple. Continue...

Accept their Terms and Conditions (but only if you really do) and continue.

Enter your information. Don't worry, you won't even need to think about your credit card at all during this guide. I know hoe protective of its security you are if you've gotten this far.

Select "None" for your payment information.

It will prompt you to verify via e-mail. Do so.

Congratulations! You did it! Just think of those thousands of free applications... Go get 'em! Exclusively For Jailbreakers: Fit More Icons on Your Home Screen:

Nobody should need more space on their iPhone's home screen. Especially after discovering this clever little trick. However, some like to be unique while also achieving some sort of benefit within their phone. This short guide will allow you to fit a bunch more icons on your home screen. Cluttered, yes, but functional when it comes to having tons of apps right at your finger tips. This involves installing three simple apps through Cydia. The first is called FiveIrows. This adds an additional row to the home screen, and can be downloaded by adding this source to cydia: http://cydia.touch-mania.com/ . Next, get Five Icon Dock, and the Five Column Springboard. Then, you're done! Yes, it is cluttered, and Categories does a better job, but this'll sure make any iPhone stand out from the rest! Remove Unwanted Icons:

There is a very easy trick on the iPhone that many people who have jailbroken phones are simply unaware of. To remove unwanted icons without deleting an application, just enter BossPrefs, click on the 'Poof!' button at the bottom of the screen, and remove any unwanted icons from the home screen without deleting the app! Very easy, very handy.
