Gamer's Corner: Can Alive 4-Ever Reinvent the Survival Shooter?

So far there hasn't been much depth to the "Survival Shooter" genre in the app store. Sure, each game is different in its own way and they all offer unique enemies and weapons, but what about story and levels?
For me, that's my biggest issue. No matter how many times you play iDracula, Minigore, or whatever other game such as this, they all lack story and levels. Alive 4-Ever looks to change all of that. Not only are they releasing a game that is rich in missions, a total of 30 with each one offering different goals and achievements, but the game also includes bluetooth multiplayer for online play as well.
At this point, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit skeptical about this game and what it's claiming to do. To be honest, it looks a lot like Left For Dead meets iDracula. However, I wouldn't mind that if it's good and the controls work well. I really like iDracula and any game like that, but there biggest drawbacks are their lack of any substance. You can only kill stuff for so long before it gets a bit tedious.
The developer, Meridian, has submitted Alive 4-Ever into the app store so we should be seeing it in the next couple of days or so. When it is released, it will have a $2.99 price tag on it. Not a bad price considering everything it comes with...
You'll have the ability to choose from four different characters, each with their own backgrounds and attributes. As you progress in the game, you acquire experience points that can be used to upgrade your player stats. You will also be able to buy a multitude of different weapons, 16 in all.
As I said, the biggest element for Alive 4-Ever has to be it's story and the fact that it comes with a whopping 30 levels included in it. The basic plot of the game revolves around you trying to save a small town from being overrun by zombies. A deadly virus is responsible for "turning" the townspeople into the walking dead and you must find and rescue survivors.
There are different goals for each level like rescuing survivors in a given time frame, locating and retrieving vaccines to the virus, wiping out a given amount of zombies, and boss fights on certain levels too. All of this has been added to the game in order to increase the longevity of gameplay.
The basic plot is nothing new, but the amount of levels and the gameplay that's being promised definitely sounds intriguing. I'm hoping the online element adds more to the game like in Left For Dead. Let's keep our fingers crossed that this game delivers like we all hope it will.
