PSP And PSP Go To Get Minis, Or As We Like To Call Them, iPhone Games
August 19, 2009
We already knew Sony and Nintendo were feeling the heat, but instead of sitting back and letting the iPhone and iPod touch take over the casual mobile gaming market, Sony has decided to start poaching iPhone game developers.
During Sony's GamesCom keynote, they announced a new line of downloadable titles called Minis for the PSP and the unreleased PSP Go. Minis are titles that are 100MB in size or less, and are only available through the PSN Store. Minis will launch on October 1st, which is not-so-coincidentally the same day the PSP Go is set to launch. The titles are meant to be Sony's way of entering the casual game market since they will be cheap to develop and cheap for gamers to purchase.
On launch day Sony plans on having 15 titles ready to go, which will include a few recognizable iPhone games such Fieldrunners, Hero of Sparta, and Minigore. Sony intends on having 50 more of these Minis available by the end of the year. Pricing for these titles has yet to be announced.
