Review: THE GAME OF LIFE Classic Edition

August 24, 2009

Overview Life got you down? Unable to pay those bills? No need to worry, Electronic Arts has you covered. Now you can see what your life would be like if you went to college, had kids, got married, invested, the possibilities are endless. And now you can do all of this from the palm of your hand. Ready to try your chances in the Game of Life? Features Everything from the classic board game is here...and a lot more. You can either play the computer or with up to three different friends at the same time. There are "Share the Wealth" cards that are used throughout the game and they can be played for a variety of different things like stopping a player from suing you for example. You can invest in a number from the wheel and get points any time anyone spins that number. You can of course have kids, get married, go to college, get a career, etc. As I said, just about everything from the board game has been included here. There is the retirement option as well and if you are the first to finish the game, there are numerous benefits to that player as you earn money for finishing the game first while the rest of the players try to get to the end of their life as well. The Breakdown The Good: Are you a fan of the original board game? So was I and this is an amazingly updated version of that game. The animations and gameplay are incredibly smooth and look great. I particular love the retro 60's look that is present throughout the game. The music and sound effects are equally great and they compliment the app perfectly. As this is a board game app, the replay value is extremely high on this one and you will play it over and over again. Even if you are playing it solo. The controls also work really well, which is refreshing. Just spin the wheel and tap when directed. It's pretty straightforward and very easy to just pick it up and start playing. There's no need for any tutorials or any of that nonsense. The Bad: This game is as near perfect as you can get and because of that there really isn't anything wrong with this game. It ends a little quickly if you play solo, but with friends it has about the same amount of gameplay as with the board game. The Verdict If you liked the original board game, this is ten times more fun and a lot better in my opinion. By far, this is the best board game app from Electronic Arts, hands down. It is absolutely worth the $4.99 price tag and I can't imagine you'd be disappointed in this one if you ever played and enjoyed the original. [gallery link="file" columns="4"]
