Review: Westbang

August 9, 2009

Overview The sheriff of a small town in the Wild West has been killed. It's time for you to step up and take a stand against the outlaws terrorizing the innocent. Think you have the quickest draw in the West? This is a great game for any fan of Westerns or old style Western shooting games. It's lots of fun and incredibly addicting. Features The game has over 25 different levels included in it and there are over 21 different bandits you must fight. Each one has there own unique style of gun play as well. In between levels you are treated to animated cinematics too. There are four different styles of gameplay here, the "GOOD," which is basically the "easy" mode and in it you have automatic reload, the level restarts on death, and slower bandits. "Hard is called "BAD," and consists of manual reload and game over on death. There is also an "UGLY," mode which is the survival mode in the game and each bandit gets faster and faster until you basically die. Lastly, there are local and online high scores so you can keep track of how well you're doing compared to the rest of the world. There is also a free version of this game if you are wary about picking this one up. The Breakdown The Good: This is probably one of the best games I have played this year. I really loved just about everything in this game. The controls are very simple and easy to get down, touch the bandit right after he draws to kills him, don't kill the innocent townspeople. Tap the revolver in the bottom corner to reload. Very basic, but it works really well. I loved the look and feel of this game. It really has that old-school western look to it. If you ever played one of those old shoot-out games at a carnival or whatnot, this has that feel about it. (well, an updated version of course) The animated cinematics look great as does the rest of the graphics in this game. The sounds have that cheesy western sound to them and it compliments the visuals perfectly. The game also has a very high replay value to it because there are so many different game modes to try out. Survival mode (UGLY) is insane, but very fun. The Bad: I really enjoyed this game and couldn't find any major flaws in it. However, this isn't for everyone and I could see this being a very boring game for some. Which is why I highly recommend downloading the free version first. After you try the free version if this is your thing, grab it and if not don't. Because it can get a little repetitive at times. You'll die more times than you'll like and replaying the same levels might get annoying at times too. The Verdict This game is a steal for only a buck. It's incredibly entertaining and addicting and you'll definitely get your money's worth out of this one. Again, there is a free version and I recommend grabbing that first and making sure this game is for you. If it is, you'll have hours of fun with it. [gallery link="file" columns="4"]
