Sick And Tired Of Checking Your Gmail Every Few Minutes? Get Push Notifications With PushMail
August 3, 2009
If you are anything like me, you are probably sick and tired of constantly launching your iPhone's Mail app just to see if you have a new email in your Gmail account. One developer has created a simple little app that is able to free you of this nuisance by sending you a push notification when a new email is received.
PushMail by Simon Patarin is able to send you push notifications when you receive a new email in your Gmail account by forwarding it to a dummy account. It is a simple concept, but it works as described.
Simply launch the app and register a username and password for dopushmail.com. Once you are successfully registered, head to your Gmail account and start forwarding emails to your new dopushmail.com account. Make sure to check the "keep copy in inbox" preference as your dopushmail.com account does not actually store your emails, they will still be going to your Mail app. All email that is forwarded to this new account will trigger push notifications to be sent to your device with the sender, subject, and a portion of the body of the email in the notification. The push notification will also be accompanied by an audio alert.
You can find out more information about how to set up your Gmail account, or any service that allows you to forward and filter emails for that matter, on the developer's website.
PushMail is is currently available in the App Store for $4.99.
