Sirius XM To Release iPhone Receiver Accessory At Special Media Event?
August 21, 2009
The Sirius XM iPhone app has definitely not been the most well-received app in the App Store. Out of the 95,000+ users who submitted a rating for the app, almost 58,000 of those gave it only a single star. Sirius XM may be looking to change all of that with a rumored iPhone and iPod touch receiver accessory that should finally give you all of the channels you have been asking for.
According to All Things Digital, Sirius XM will be throwing an invitation only media event to show off their new line-up of accessories, and the rumor is that one of those accessories will be a dock for the iPhone and iPod touch that will be able to turn the devices into full-fledged satellite radio receivers.
XMFan claims to have some insider details.
The XM SkyDock is a docking station for your iPod Touch or iPhone that turns it into a SATELLITE XM Radio receiver! Included is an XM antenna, power cord (also featuring the new transmitter technology), and docking station that turns your iPod/iPhone into an actual XM Satellite Radio receiver using the SiriusXM app.The dock is expected to retail for under $100 and should be available wherever other iPhone and iPod touch accessories are sold. XMFan claims that since the SkyDock will have its own built-in XM antenna, it will give the iPhone or iPod touch access to every Sirius XM channel available, even Howard Stern. The SkyDock is said to be portable enough to serve as a satellite radio receiver in your vehicle as well. So are you sold on this concept? Or is this just another way for Sirius XM to make some extra money off of the millions of iPhone and iPod touch users who crave Howard Stern and a handful of other channels?
