SlingPlayer Mobile v1.1 Update Submitted, Adds Widescreen Viewing And More
August 11, 2009
Sling Media's SlingPlayer Mobile kind of disappeared from the limelight after the controversy surrounding the lack of 3G and EDGE support died down. Now SlingPlayer Mobile is set to receive its first update since that whole fiasco, but will it be enough to warrant a second look?
According to jkOnTheRun, SlingPlayer Mobile v1.1 will include true 16x9 widescreen support, an improved remote control interface, faster speeds during channel changing, faster remote control response, and integrated DISH Remote Access for users with DISH Network Satellite TV.
Just so you don't get too excited, the update will maintain the usual Wi-Fi only access, at least here in the U.S. Boy Genius Report has reported that Sling Media has submitted a version of the app specifically designed for outside of the U.S. that includes 3G support. Feel free to blame AT&T for that nugget.
There's no telling when the app update will be released, but you can be sure that you will hear about it when it does finally hit the App Store. You can download the current version of SlingPlayer Mobile from the App Store for $29.99.
