Apple "Rock And Roll" Event Game Roundup

September 10, 2009

Covering yesterday's "Rock and Roll" music event left us a little burnt out to say the least.  Apple unleashed tons of new hardware and software for us to get our grimy fingers on, which left little time to cover some of the games from well-know developers that were shown off for the first time at the event.  These new envelope-pushing games deserve a portion of the spotlight and well, there time is now. EA's Need for Speed: Shift nfsshift_screen1Very little is known about EA's new racing title at this point.  The game is set to be released for consoles this September, but the iPhone and iPod touch version is unlikely to be released around that same time.  Let's just hope it doesn't take as long as the last Need for Speed title. Instead of being an all-out arcade racing-fest, it is intended to be more of a simulation game.  It includes tons of officially licensed cars as well, Dodge Challenger Concept, Porsche Cayman S, Audi R8 4.2 FSI quattro, Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Ford Shelby GT500, and many more.  More screenshots can be found on EA's Facebook page. Gameloft's N.O.V.A. nova_screen1You can call N.O.V.A. a Halo lookalike if you wish, but I would personally consider that a compliment.  N.O.V.A. is a FPS that will feature a single-player campaign with dozens of levels, five weapons, multiplayer deathmatch and team deathmatch over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, Push Notifications, and voice chat.  N.O.V.A. is expected to launch this holiday season. Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed II Ubisoft will be releasing the iPhone's second Assassin's Creed game this November alongside its console counterparts release.  The game will still be a side-scrolling adventure, but will implement some new effects, animations, customization, and exploration.  Since it is being developed by Ubisoft instead of Gameloft, expect at least a little different experience this time around. Tapulous' Riddim Ribbon riddimribbon_screen1Tapulous is probably most well known for Tap Tap Revenge, but they look to change that with their new music racing game Riddim Ribbon.  In the game you play a DJ racer who must guide a ball down a song ribbon by utilizing tilt-based controls.  If you veer off of the main path, the song will change.  At the end of each level, you will have created your own unique music mix that can be shared with your friends.  The game is due in October. So that's the gist of it.  Keep watching the site for more details about these and other upcoming games. Which one looks the most appealing to you?
