Gamer's Corner: Back At Last

September 22, 2009

happyiphone

Hello there all my fellow gamers and iPhone enthusiasts. Gamer's Corner is finally back on appadvice.com after a very long and unintentional hiatus. I've been incredibly busy with our new Podcasts that have been coming out every Monday - Thursday and after a few weeks things have finally started to get back to normal...kind of. (check out our latest Podcast here by the way.) dexter1So what's new? Well there have been a ton of games released into the App Store for one. Although, most have been pretty disappointing overall in my opinion. Take the "Dexter the Game" app for example. I've been waiting for that game to hit the App Store forever and it really bummed me out when I played it. Bad controls and terrible load times...sigh. Oh, well. If you are interested, my review for the game should be up on the site by today or tomorrow. The biggest thing to happen to the iPhone gaming industry in these past few weeks has to be the 3.1 update. iphone311How lame was this update? Thank you Apple for making my already sluggish iPhone 3G run even slower than it did before this update....awesome. Oh, and we got a Genius Bar for the App Store and a "Hot New Games" category. Wasn't there already a "What's Hot" category? That's not confusing anyone though, is it? gamers-corner-genius-screenDon't get me wrong, I still love Apple and my iPhone, but come on here. All we get out of a new update is a slower OS and Genius Bar? Weak. Has anyone had any luck with the Genius Bar by the way. It gives me the most random apps. Take, for instance, the screen shot of my phone pictured here. So I'll give Genius Fallen Justice based on the other comic app I have, The Walking Dead. But what is going on with Fast & Furious based on Jurassic 3D Rollercoaster or i-Gun Lite based on Pocket God? How are any of those games going to interest me based these recommendations. All I wanted was an easy way to find some new games that are a little under the radar. Games that not everyone knows about yet. The "Hidden Gems" if you will. Hey, we don't we have a column about that exact topic on our website here? Okay, shameless plug, I know. However, Ian can't find them all. So far the only way I still find my random games is through searching endlessly...sigh. Maybe one day we will have some other way of finding great games that aren't in the Top 25. I wait for that day. I long for that day. I want, that day. Till next time... toy-story-menu

Game App of the Week

In honor of the films being re-released in 3D later this month, Disney has created a Free Toy Story app called Toy Story Photo Hunt. It's basically one of those "look at both pictures and find out what is wrong in them," type of games. We've all played these type of games before, but now you can play a Toy Story version with pictures of all your favorite characters and the actually music from the films is in there too. The game also features the trailer for Toy Story 3 and a link to the other Toy Story app, Toy Story Mania. Plus a few other features as well. toy-story-buzz A review for Toy Story Mania can be found here if you are interested. That game goes for $4.99, though. At first glance Toy Story Photo Hunt might look like a kids game, but after about twenty levels in the pictures get extremely hard. I was about fifty in when I finally lost and was still getting new pictures every time. Not bad for a Free game.
