iPhone 3.1 was announced today at Apples Rock and Roll event. They say it is free for all iphone users and iPod Touch users who already had 3.0.  The 3.1 beta has been available and made it to version beta version 3. So far here's what we know: picture-2 Genius Technology on the iPhone: This will recommend apps to you based on the apps you already own. Genius is a technology that Apple has had in iTunes for a while, which gives you recommendations based on the music you already own, but now Apple is applying this same technology to apps. Now find the Genius technology in the App Store on the iPhone and get app recommendations based on apps you already own. Manage your apps in iTunes! Ringtones: You will now be able to purchase ringtones from the iTunes store on the iPhone. There will be over 30,000 ringtones available to choose from going for $1.29 each. So this is all we know so far, but will more rumors be met? Here's a list of what we might expect:

  • Tweaks to the Calendar
  • Non Destructive Video trimming
  • Copy and Paste in the phone keypad
  • Changes alphanumeric phone numbers into pure numbers

  • Option to "Save as new clip" when trimming a video on iPhone 3GS
  • Better iPhone 3G Wi-Fi performance when Bluetooth is turned on
  • Remotely lock iPhone with a passcode via MobileMe
  • Use Voice Control on iPhone 3GS with Bluetooth headsets
  • Paste phone numbers into the keypad
  • Option to use Home button to turn on accessibility features on iPhone 3GS
  • Warn when visiting fraudulent websites in Safari (anti-phishing)
  • Improved Exchange calendar syncing and invitation handling
  • Fixes issue that cause some app icons to display incorrectly
