So You Think You Can DJ? Test Your Skills With Hip Hop All Star

September 30, 2009

I-play recently released Hip Hop All Star for the iPhone and iPod touch, a game that allows you to scratch and spin your way to DJ stardom.  Think of it as Guitar Hero with a twist, and of course without all of the rock music. Hip Hop All Star features Guitar Hero-like gameplay that will require you to hit three different colored notes as they spin around a record.  The gameplay gets a bit of a twist at times, however, where you will be required to scratch the music in real-time on a separate turntable.  The real draw of the game for many will be the playlist.  If you are into hip hop music, you will be happy to know that Hip Hop All Star features ten different tracks from the likes of Busta Rhymes, Kid Cudi, DJ Green Lantern, and more. Hip Hop All Star also features five different locations, multiplayer via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, Facebook Connect, and downloadable tracks via in-app purchase.  The multiplayer portion of the game pits you against a friend, which will allow you to not only show of your skills but also earn power-ups and unlockable in-game accessories.  At this time, the game only features one track pack available for download for $.99, but the pack contains two tracks.  More will certainly arrive in the near future.
"If you are a hip hop music fan, this game is for you," said Don Ryan, chief operating officer of Oberon Media. "As the first and only all hip hop DJ game, we wanted to make sure players are continuously engaged with the music and that the game was true to real DJing techniques and principles. The micro-transactions keep the game fresh by offering players an entirely new experience with each purchase."
Hip Hop All Star is now available in the App Store at the introductory price of $2.99. Embedded below is a gameplay trailer for Hip Hop All Star.
