Wall Street Journal On Your iPhone Won't Be Free Much Longer
September 16, 2009
We have some bad news for those of you who access The Wall Street Journal via the iPhone and iPod touch app. Rupert Murdoch, the astoundingly rich media mogul and owner of The Wall Street Journal, has said the company will start charging for mobile access of their highly sought after content within the next "one to two months."
The Wall Street Journal plans to charge $2.00 per week for non-subscribers and $1.00 per week for those who already subscribe to the print version.
Newspapers all over the country have struggled to remain afloat, so they have had to come up with new ways to generate income. The Wall Street Journal is one of those who has actually had success in charging their readers for online access to the paper, so this move makes sense, at least business-wise.
In related news, although not concerning the iPhone or iPod touch directly, the company is also considering pay-per-view and subscription models for Hulu, the popular free online ad-based video service. Sorry, I just had to pile it on.
So, fellow news junkies, are you willing to shell out an extra buck or two per week to access The Wall Street Journal while on-the-go?
