Steve Jobs has already gone on record and stated that the
iPod touch is a game machine and for that reason it doesn't include a built-in camera. It seems as if people are having a hard time swallowing that explanation, including one
MacRumors reader who went back and took a look at the
leaked iPod touch images that surfaced about a month ago to compare them to the recently released
iFixit teardown findings of the new iPod touch. The results are definitely intriguing.
iFixit was the first to discover that the new iPod touch contained a small space at the very top that was just about the perfect size to house a small camera like the iPod nano's. When compared to the leaked iPod touch images from about a month ago, you will notice the same space that is open on the new iPod touch is filled by a camera, but everything else is is just about the same. Both the new iPod touch and the leaked device have distinctly different internal offerings than the second generation iPod touch, which should put to rest any possibilities that the leaked images were faked.
Remember, it was rumored that Apple was having
technical issues with the camera modules in the new iPod touch, which would explain why the leaked images of the prototype model had a camera but it had since been removed from the final model.
