According to Ars Technica, Microsoft has started placing Windows Marketplace for Mobile ads in your iPhone apps. I haven't personally seen any of these ads, although I must admit I don't use ad-based apps that often and when I do the last thing I am looking at is the ads, but apparently others have, and it's not just on the iPhone. Some users have reported seeing the same ads in Google Android-based apps as well.
The ads, pictured above, simply read "Windows Marketplace for Mobile" and feature a rather large "Submit App" button, which could indicate that the ads are targeted towards developers, not just consumers. This isn't the first time Microsoft has attempted to persuade developers from competing platforms to come over to their side. In early August they published a third-party case study that documents how to port apps over to their platform.
More than anything, it's kind of amusing seeing Microsoft ads within iPhone apps. Microsoft is trying really, really hard to get Windows Mobile recognized once again, and what better place to do it than within iPhone apps?
Have any of you seen these ads? If so, which apps contained them?
