Apple has issued a statement regarding AT&T's iPhone changing announcement today. Now that AT&T has no objection to VoIP apps on their wireless network, Apple will be amending their SDK agreement. The previous iPhone SDK Agreement clearly stated that: "If an Application requires or will have access to the cellular network, then additionally such Application... may not have Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) functionality using the cellular network." Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris issued the following statement today: "We’re very happy that AT&T is now supporting VoIP applications. We will be amending our developer agreement to get VoIP apps on the App Store and in customers’ hands as soon as possible." It is not clear yet how long it will take before we start to see true VoIP apps in the App Store, but hopefully we won't have to wait too long.
