Apple's Looking Forward to Windows 7

October 16, 2009

In one week, Microsoft will release the much anticipated Windows 7 for PC's around the world. Many preliminary reports say that this version of Windows is Microsoft's best in a long time. Which is good, because the Washington based company desperately needs to redeem Windows after Vista. Microsoft is rightly excited about their new product, meant to "simplify your PC," but Apple seems to be equally stoked about the new operating system. If you have cable television, or just watch it on occasion, you've certainly seen the Mac vs. PC commercials where Justin Long - like an uncouth relative - harps on his opposite's flaws. Fans of the cutesy commercials can look forward to a round of new ads targeted at the new Microsoft software. Apple's SVP of marketing, Phillip W. Schiller, says the impending Windows 7 launch "presents a very good opportunity" for the Cupertino (Calif.) company. Apple plans to point out, to consumers, how tedious and burdensome the upgrade process Windows XP users will have to go through to get to 7. Apple is counting on winning over millions of Windows PC owners because of this. Schiller says: "Any user that reads all those steps [to upgrade to Windows 7 from XP] is probably going to freak out. If you have to go through all that, why not just buy a Mac?"
