Gameloft Releases Official Earthworm Jim iPhone Gameplay Trailer
October 14, 2009
Gameloft announced that they would be porting the classic Sega Mega Drive/Genesis game Earthworm Jim to the iPhone and iPod touch some time ago, but today they have finally given us something to look at and it's in the form of a gameplay trailer.
Earthworm Jim was released in 1994 for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and was later ported to a bunch of other platforms. To say the game is a classic is an understatement. It features loads of lovable characters, solid platforming elements, and a fair helping of humor. The series sort of took a dive after the sequel was released in 1995, and it really hasn't regained any traction since. Gameloft intends to change all that with an updated iPhone version of the game.
Earthworm Jim for the iPhone and iPod touch will be a port of the original game. It will feature the usual on-screen controls, so hopefully Gameloft can get this very important piece of the puzzle down before the game is released. A platformer without solid controls is just not worth playing, no matter what name is in the title. Gameloft has done the job well once before with Castle of Magic, so I don't see why they wouldn't be able to do it again.
Earthworm Jim should be available some time later this year at a yet-to-be-determined price.
