Sonos Introduces ZonePlayer S5, An All-In-One iPhone Controlled Music System
October 13, 2009

“Our customers tell us they listen to twice as much music after bringing Sonos into their homes,” said John MacFarlane, CEO of Sonos. “The new S5 is our latest effort to simplify the Sonos experience so more people can enjoy more music than ever before.”The S5 is essentially an iPod speaker dock without actually having to dock anything, allowing you to control the music in your home wherever you are. Setup is simple, just connect the S5 to a power outlet and your home router and start streaming music from your computer's iTunes library or any networked hard drive. The S5 ships with free software for both Mac and PC to boot. You can also fill other rooms with the sound of music by purchasing multiple S5s or any other Sonos ZonePlayer system, because as long as you have the one S5 (or once again, any other ZonePlayer or ZoneBridge) connected to your router, the rest will wirelessly play music no matter where they are in your home. The Sonos ZonePlayer S5 includes two tweeters, two mid-range drivers, and a built-in subwoofer, and each of them are individually powered by a dedicated digital amp, which means it should be fairly capable of room-filling sound. The Sonos ZonePlayer S5 will retail for $399 and is expected to be available sometime later this month. You can sign-up on Sonos' website to be notified when the S5 becomes available. Embedded below is a video demonstrating the Sonos Controller iPhone app together with the ZonePlayer S5.
