Steve Jobs Makes Forbes' List Of Top 50 Richest Americans

Forbes has compiled its annual list of the 400 richest Americans and our favorite CEO Steven P. Jobs has once again cracked the top 50.  But where exactly does he land in this long list of America's wealthiest? As the CEO of Apple and the largest individual shareholder in Disney, Steve Jobs was able to pull in some big numbers.  According to Forbes, he has a net worth of about $5.1 billion, which places him at a respectable 43 on the list.  In comparison, Google's Eric Schmidt, a former member of Apple's board of directors, was able to take a bit of the spotlight away from Steve by ranking two spots ahead of him.  The one and only William Gates III was able to nab the number one spot for the 16th consecutive year with a net worth of $50 billion, even after losing $7 billion over the last 12 months. Compared to some of the other rich folks on this list, Steve Jobs has had a difficult year, and that's not in terms of money lost.  He had to deal with a highly publicized liver transplant for a good portion of the year, but he did end up making a triumphant return at this year's "It's only rock and roll" event. Now that he is back on his feet, maybe he can take Eric Schmidt down a peg or two and move into the top 40 just in time for next year's list. Here's a fun fact to leave you with.  For only the fifth time since 1982, the collective net worth of the Forbes 400 has declined.  The group collectively lost about $300 billion the last 12 months.  In related news, Warren Buffet has placed signs all over the country offering a reward to anyone who can find his lost $10 billion and return it to him safely.  No, I kid.  We all know there is no reward.
