The Wait Is Over, Doom Classic Is Now Available In The App Store
October 31, 2009
id Software's highly anticipated iPhone and iPod touch remake of the classic MS-DOS game Doom has finally hit the App Store as Doom Classic, and it's exactly as we remembered it.
Just as in the original game, Doom Classic puts you in the shoes of a nameless marine who is Earth's last line of defense against the armies of hell. Doom Classic includes Doom's original three episodes, Knee-Deep in the Dead, Shores of Hell, and Inferno, as well as episode four, Thy Flesh Consumed, which in total spans across 36 levels. All of Doom's original and unforgettable weapons are here as well, including the chainsaw, shotgun, and of course, the BFG 9000. The game also features the original soundtrack or the ability to listen to your own music.
Just as promised, Doom Classic contains two different local multiplayer modes via Wi-Fi: Cooperative and Deathmatch. Both modes can be played with up to four players. Like Wolfenstein 3D Classic Platinum, Doom Classic features multiple control schemes to suit any players needs, and it also has a customizable interface.
Doom Classic is now available in the App Store for $6.99. That's a small price to pay for a trip down memory lane.
