George Hotz Offers To Fix The 3.1.2 WiFi Issue

November 10, 2009

Every firmware update brings its load of issues, bugs and complaints. Most of the time a restore or resetting the network settings does the trick but it seems like the last update really pushed all of this over the top. With the 3.1.2 update a incredible amount of iPhone owners appear to have a tough time using wireless networks, it goes from intermittent disconnection to the complete inability to join a network. Normally the best way to fix the issue if any of the previously mentioned tips don't work is simply having it exchanged at the closest Apple Store. Fortunately George Hotz, the genius behind blacksn0w, investigated the issue. He was worried that it could be caused by the jailbreak or the unlock but from what he was able to find out it's indeed an Apple bug. Especially since even "regular" users are facing the same issue. So today he offered, I don't know how seriously, to fix the issue for Apple if they are interested. Here is what he posted on his twitter :
Apple, will you give me 10k if I fix your wifi bug?
We can only hope that Apple will accept or fix it themselves, but what about just hiring geohot? Furthermore if there is one person who will block unlockers out forever it's definitely him. For those more interested in the issue there are  quite a couple of Apple support threads on the topic. [Thanks to Peter Ingersoll and Antoine Chappuis for the tip]
