iPhone, Therefore I Am

November 5, 2009

We already know that Mac users are (in a statistical majority) very open people that have a strong sense of perfection and tend to feel superior to their surrounding, but what about iPhone users ? Retrevo made what they call a "gadgetology study" around relationships between iPhone owners and their partners, the idea is to get a little "snapshot" of how we think and proceed. Here is what they claim: On relationships apparently, iPhone owners strongly prefer (3 to 1) someone that owns cool gadgets over a college degree, furthermore 1 in 3 says that if their partner had out-of-date gadgets, it would be a turnoff. On top of that, 1 in 3 iPhone owner claims to have already broken up using email or text and 1 in 5 would frequently watch "adult material" on his favorite iDevice (compared to 1 in 10 for Blackberry users). 1 in 4 has already broken up a relationship because the other partner spent too much time on his mobile device and finally iPhone owners are more likely to see themselves as "media buffs, extroverts, and intellectuals". We're getting a lot of sociopsychological surveys around iPhone users lately and personally, the more I hear about it the more I'm starting to doubt them. iPhone users would be stuck-up, rude, perverted, hypocritical and full of themselves, that's a little far-fetched isn't it? I think this is a highly interesting topic that deserves some serious research, I'd like to see something that matches better quantitative and qualitative standards. Or maybe this just makes my psychological self-defense mechanisms kick-in. What do you think ? Does this correspond to you? Feel free to flame Retrevo... [via Retrevo]
