Overview

Country Driver was a game we sneak peeked awhile back, and now that it’s available for everyone let’s find out if it’s worth $0.99. CD_checkpoint

The Good

Country driver is fun a couple times though for your sadistic side. Your score is primarily based on the number of sheep you hit, so the more sheep you splatter with your car, the better. Rather than driving straight you’re weaving down the road trying to hit as many sheep as you can. Country driver is a fun unrealistic driving sim. Just for a few short bursts to jump in, and drive as far as you can smacking sheep. As you advance you will need to go a certain speed to reach checkpoints, and you will need to pick up gas tanks. Also cones and rocks appear limiting the part of the road you can drive on, and if you run them over you may damage your car too much, and it’s game over. I have to say it brought a smile to my face as three sheep filled my windshield, or honking to stop the sheep in their tracks. CD_hazards The game has a good cartoon art style. The sheep whether they’re in the road or on your windshield are designed to fit the mood. The art design reminded me of Rocko’s Modern Life which is a good thing. The animations are nice from sheep flying off in the distance to blood splatters from the sheep on to your windshield. Included is an upbeat soundtrack sounding like a banjo with a heavy voice making the sound of an engine. The car sounds just as it should, as an old POS. There are various sheep sounds from regular grazing bah to a shocked bbaaahhh as they’re being hit. The entire time playing this game everything contributed to making me think of the “Canyonero” from The Simpsons. Over and over I thought of the line “It’s a squirrel squashing, deer smacking killing machine”. Scoreloop is included for online high scores to see who’s the best sheep killer. CD_stats

The Bad

Country driver’s main problem revolves around replayability. There’s only one gameplay mode, and it gets extremely repetitive fast. Once you’ve played through one time you’ve done everything in the game. Only survival mode is included with no variation, so you're only hitting sheep. It would be great to see some updates to the game. The controls are awkward, and closely related to Enviro-Bear. In Country Driver it’s just is a hassle without the idiotic explanation that a bear was driving. Just come out, and say we didn’t know how to implement better controls. Hopefully we can see accelerometer based control in an update.

The Verdict

Country driver as it stands is a basic game that doesn’t hold up to the increasing standard of iPhone games. It’s just too simplistic, with no variability. With that said, you can have some fun with it, and it can provide some laughter. Updates are planned, and we will let you know when they come out. It's not worth it as it stands, but we will keep you notified if updates improve the game.
